The Dawgs have suddenly become the darlings of the nation by winning the SEC tourney and 2 games in one day in Ga Tech’s gym. Could you imagine had Tech done that in our place? May have been just the excuse we would have needed to get us a new gym. One thing for sure is Xavier is not happy about playing the Dawgs tomorrow as a 14 seed. 15 of the last 23 tourney’s a 14 seed has beat a 3 seed. I am sure Dawg fans remember UGA getting beat by 14 seed UTC back in 97. I sure do!

I have not being the biggest fan of Dennis Felton. I wrote in earlier article that Dennis Felton had done as good as he could and it was time for a change. Well I am not 100% sold on his no movement offense, but there is no doubt his team is playing with heart and desire this weekend. After winning 2 games in one day the Dawgs are the talk of the nation. ESPN must have spent ten minutes talking about the Dawgs last night on sportscenter.

2002 UGA walked into Jax with a 9-0 record and favored to beat the Gators. It was the first time for the ESPN night game and the place was a zoo literally. After that game the Jacksonville Mayor declared never again would the game be at night. 1 dropped pass and many broken hearts going up I-75 on Sunday morning the Dawgs lost all control of NC game berth which opened the door for Ohio St to run the table.

2004 was the season in which Sports Illustrated tabbed the Dawgs preseason No 1. UGA went on to lose 3 games that season and left with a question of what happened?

2005 the Dawgs were heavy favorites going into the Sugar Bow vs WV and we all know what happened there.

UGA will be preseason at least top 3 in every poll and No 1 in alot of them.

LES MILES

09Mar08

I know he has a ring and Mark Richt does not. However Les Miles was brought into a program that was loaded and has already produced a NFL No 1 pick in Russell and may have another soon in Glenn Dorsey. Key here is that Nick Saban recruited both of these players. Miles will earn every bit of his 3.8 million dollar salary in the next few years. Miles made some questionable ,yet gutsy, calls this year. Everything fell in place this year for LSU with 2 losses to make it back to the NC game. Ask UGA(13-1)2002 and Aub(13-0) in 2004 how much they would have love to lose 2 games and still had made it to the NC game. Off the field issues have already started in Baton Rogue with suspension of Ryan Perrilloux. Did I mention that Perrilloux said he would win 2 Heisman’s? Hard to do that when you are working at Wal Mart during the fall!

This is Miles program now. He turned away Michigan job to stay with LSU. Miles failed to use the momentum of a national championship to reel in a top 10 recruiting class. He  will need to put a fence back up around the state as did Saban and keep winning games with that. Miles has done one thing since his arrival at LSU and that is win games. However so did Larry Coker his first 4 years at Miami.

Good thing that Damon Evans found it in his heart today for UGA to make Richt the 5th highest paid coach in the SEC. Yes you heard right, Richt went from the 7th to 5th paid coach in the SEC. This from a coach that has won more games than any coach in the last 6 years in the SEC. Won 2 SEC championships and played for 1 more during this time frame. Been to 3 BCS bowl games winning 2 of those. So UGA found a way to get him some money. We better be happy that our coach is not a Tubberville clone or he would have been long gone from Athens to Miami last year.  Today is just another day that any Dawg fan should appreciate having Richt, because 99% of the other coaches with his resume and wins would have laughed at Evans and crew.

Former HS teammate of Tim Tebow and 5 star recruit James Wilson from Nease HS is transferring from UF. Meyer seems to be running off players as quick as he signs them lately. I respect the games he has won, but I think Meyer is taking shortcuts with kids and it will cost the Gators in the long run. He is not building a program for the long haul, it seems it is doing all he can do to win this year. I would not be surprised to see his name come up again at Notre Dame should Weis suffer another 7-8 loss season. To me it seems he is looking to win quickly and let somebody else deal with the mess he leaves behind. Sounds familiar to me Jim Harrick ring a bell with any Dawg fans??

Kids gone since August of 2007

James Wilson (OG) – 5-star – Class of 2007

Bo Williams (RB) – 4-star – Class of 2007

Jarred Fayson (WR) – 4-star – Class of 2006

Trent Pupello (TE) – 4-star – Class of 2006

Chevon Walker (RB) – 4-star – Class of 2006

Markus Manson (RB) – 4-star – Class of 2004

Stealing the idea from ESPN and AJC, I would like to rank my top moments I have been in or witnessed myself.

5) UGA 37 FL 17 in 1997. UGA entered the game as a 20pt underdog and only 1 year earlier had suffered a defeat at the hands of the evil genious 47-7. Robert Edwards and Mike Bobo had clutch moments in the upset in a ALL NIGHT long celebration.

4)Game 3 of the 1991 World series. It was first ever world series game in Atlanta and with John Smoltz pitching ol Fulton County Stadium was rocking. Braves won the game but lost the series.

3)GA vs LSU in the 2005 SEC champ game. After spending all day long at the CNN center and listening to Cajuns telling me how bad we were going to get beat it was a honor to spank that a** by 3 td’s!

2a) Pepperell vs Early County in Georgia  AA semi finals. Playing in that atmosphere in South Ga was life long memory for me. Goal line stand on the one yard line with less than 45 seconds to play.

2b) Pepperell vs Brown AA State Championship game 1990.Playing and winning that game still sends chills up my spine. It was the last game my Grandfather watched me play in and was glad that memory was there for him and a very close friend I lost just a month later.

1) Not EVEN close for me as far as number one goes. My oldest daughter hit a buzzer beater this year in 8under basketball for the Lady Dawgs! My heart about jumped out on the floor when she did it. I coach the team so I had to act composed but inside I wanted scream and run around the court so loud that  it would have made Dick Vitale proud.

Could not be a worse time of year for me. Cold, no football and basketball is on every night! I am so tired of looking at Bruce Pearl in that ugly a** Orange jacket. I do respect him as a coach but he takes it a little too far at this point.

Congrats to another UGA boy getting a coordinator position with a major college program with Kirby Smart being named DC on Wednesday. One has to wonder would Kirby, Travis Jones,  Mike Bobo,  Will Muschamp ever be on the same staff? Ray Goff didnt develop players, but sure did good with young coaches!

Spring practice has started for some programs in the south and that means we are only a few months away! Alot of questions in the SEC this year with some many coaching and coordinator changes. LSU, Auburn, Miss, TN, SC, Kent will all have new qb’s this season.  Interested to see what Jevan Snead can do at Ole Miss under Houston Nutt.

I am sure like most of you UGA fans have already looked at the 08 schedule and wondered how you will be able to manage the road games?  Playing South Carolina in Columbia then turning around to playArizona St at night across the country will be a tough 7 days. Then later in  the year playing at LSU , then at FLA in a 7 day span. Not only is this alot of time off from work, but it will be a financial strain on alot of UGA fans. My inner circle of friends gets one boys trip a year and looks like we have voted on the Arizona state game. It was hard to pass on the LSU game( because it is a given to be at FLA game next year) but seeing UGA playing a pac 10 team on the road at night in Tempe was too tough to pass up. Interested in what other UGA fans are doing next year?

The series between Aub and Ala has been clearly dominated by Aub Tigers on the field the last six years. But can Auburn fans clearly say they have the “Big Mo” in this series? Everywhere you turn in the state is a picture of Saban and his newly number 1 ranked recruiting class. It seems they have a hold on the state already for 2009 kids at this point. This is a very important season for Tuberville and his new staff. Auburn cant afford another class like they had this year. I will say this for Auburn and Tuberville, they have done VERY WELL in the past as underdogs. It seems everytime Auburn was set to have a down year, they have accepted the challange.
